We marched several thousand strong from the Tower Bridge, up Capital Avenue going east, then, towards the State Capitol then veered left going north to Cesar Chavez Plaza Par, which was created by the efforts of our former Mayor Joe Serna and I am sure others back when we called it ‘Wino Park’!}.
At Cesar Chavez Plaza, our main Immigrant Rights Leader Al Rojas spoke to us and others, including Hermano Victor Rivera with the Zapatistas and Efren Gutierrez with Chicano Consortium. I cannot remember them all the others nor need to do so. I am sure someone else more knowledgeable will write a great report. It was just great being amongst so many of La Raza Cosmica and seeing the beauty of our people!
The main theme was the need to oppose HR House Resolution 4437, which would make all undocumented immigrants felons and require all employers to verify the immigration status of its employees. Hermano Efren mentioned when and where the Wednesday Meetings were for this issue and he is blessed being bi-lingual. Then dancers got on, I walked around then left for the Main Library until I had to catch my bus back to camp!
So it was a great march here in Sacramento, the California State Capitol, and from what I see on CNN today and on the web there was a huge one in Los Angeles. It is great that the Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigoa cane out strong today in support of immigrant workers. The struggle goes on! Si se puede!
Venceremos! Que Viva Cesar Chavez!!!
