Gracias Sister Terry ~ Thank you for sharing. I truly believe in the principle that sharing is caring. I myself am first and foremost a humane being and see the need for all of us to evolve beyond color-racial self-identities without being naive about the continued existence of certain groups using race as a gateway to enter into higher education or not. If I cannot afford a quick snack I certainly cannot afford a full course meal at the banquet table of the elite.
Race is primarily a social-mental construction devised by unjust hierarchies to keep people divided and fighting each other based upon being part of a given 'race' or not. We need to search for common denominators and build bridges, not borders.
As a Chicano indigenous to Aztlan ~the U.S. southwest~ I sometimes suffer forms of racism by Whites-Angles, Blacks/African-Americans and even Mexicanos who feel they are superior to so-called Native-Americans. My personal ancestry goes back to the Chiricahua Apache and Sonoran Yaqui tribes yet I identify with being a Chicano ~the hyphen in Mexican-American.
So racial matters can get entangled and lost in an endless loop of social prejudice and ignorant preconceptions. I am interested in the positive mobilization of the masses inside the United States and throughout the Third World. As human beings we all share the basic survival needs of food, clothing, shelter, medical care and quality education. However in order to secure our needs we need to look at the total transformation of the present state of property relations, that is, relevant revolution, not mere reform of a corrupt system.
"History is clearly a long continuum of synthesizing elements. The imbalances of the oppressive contract, ideals so fundamentally contradictory, and forces so mutually exclusive can only result in the dissolution of the agents of that contradiction."
