* Call to Action *

On 05 November the United States will give an oral presentation
on its human rights record to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR)
Working Group in Geneva, Switzerland. This is an historic event. This
is also an opportunity to shine a light on human rights violations
on the part of the U.S. government and the use of U.S. courts to
quash dissent!

Join with other human rights organizations in a worldwide
demonstration demanding recognition of the existence of
U.S. political prisoners, prisoners of war, and exiles. On 05
November-Make a noise! Gather at every embassy and consulate around
the world. On 05 November-Be present in the struggle for human
rights. Gather at every U.S. court house.

Stand Up! Demand a new trial for Leonard Peltier and all victims
of politically motivated prosecution and imprisonment in the U.S.

Stand UP! Demand accountability for the murders of COINTELPRO
targets.

STAND UP! Demand remedies for COINTELPRO targets, including
commutation of sentences.

Demand direct action by President Obama and Attorney General
Eric Holder.

Work in solidarity with the US Human Rights Network and its allies,
including the US Political Prisoners Coalition (of which the Leonard
Peltier Defense Offense Committee is a member).

* For the Ladies *

We know you wrote those letters to Mrs. Obama. Did you know that
First Lady Michelle Obama will be out on the campaign trail this
month? She'll be in San Francisco on October 25 and will spend
the following two days in Los Angeles. Watch the news, monitor the
First Lady's appearances, and make a plan to create a presence for
Leonard Peltier. Wear a shirt, carry a sign. Ask Mrs. Obama to
advocate for Peltier because it's the right thing to do.

* Where in the World is Obama? *

President Obama will make a campaign trip to Oregon on October 20.
Peltier supporters should let Obama know we're still here and we're
not going away.

* New Documentary: COINTELPRO 101 *

COINTELPRO may not be a well-understood acronym but its meaning
and continuing impact are absolutely central to understanding
the government's wars and repression against progressive
movements. COINTELPRO represents the state's strategy to prevent
movements and communities from overturning white supremacy and
creating racial justice. COINTELPRO is both a formal program of
the FBI and a term frequently used to describe a conspiracy among
government agencies-local, state, and federal-to destroy movements
for self-determination and liberation for Black, Brown, Asian,
and Indigenous struggles, as well as mount an institutionalized
attack against allies of these movements and other progressive
organizations.

COINTELPRO 101 is an educational film that will open the door
to understanding this history. This documentary will introduce
viewers new to this history to the basics and direct them to
other resources where they can learn more. The intended audiences
are the generations that did not experience the social justice
movements of the sixties and seventies. Watch the trailer:
