Administration officials are frantically trying to reassure Congress and the American people that we're making "progress" in Afghanistan, but the Rolling Stone article makes it clear that McChrystal's inner circle knew better. As one of his senior aides said, "If Americans pulled back and started paying attention to this war, it would become even less popular."
