Gracias Don Sifuentes and the Gente of Somos Primos~
We are truly blessed to have Internet Power to help us spread our Message/Mensaje and in a way it is a privilege to even be on the Internet, especially as many of La Raza Cosmica de Aztlan are without Internet Access and lack computer literacy.
In fact, community literacy programs in both Spanish and English are basic educational needs for many of us to help us succeed in this new high-tech millennium. I myself am not fluent in Spanish and that is one of my major personal shortcomings.
I always bring it down to the people’s basic needs: food, clothing, shelter, medical care and basic education. We will mobilize the people around their basic needs.
It is clear we need to be thinking in terms of building up a strong Latino Liberation Movement that includes all of our culturally diverse people, especially Spanish-speaking Mexican immigrants inside the United States. A Movimiento that is linked up with global liberation struggles throughout the world, especially in all of Latin America. A lot of big historic changes are happening in Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia and other ‘hot spots’ in these troubled times and we must be up to changing with the times.
Chicanos have a special role in building bridges across borders, across lands and across cultures. We must be inclusive and reach out to all racial and ethnic groups, including White-Americans, Black-Americans and Native-Americans. The social disease of racism is not only the monopoly of White people so must be rid ourselves of any rotten remnants of racism!
The present proposed immigration legislation by the U.S. Congress is evil, racist and reactionary. We are experiencing racist backlashes to our just claims for humane immigration legislation and our great marches rattled the White House!
We must see with eyes for the future and continue our onward march forward! I appreciate the May Issue and will be looking forward to the June Issue of Somos Primos!

Dear Readers. . .
Surely May 1, 2006 will be considered a pivotal day in the history of the United States. We can thank the leadership, with great satisfaction for the very orderly way the marches and boycotts were conducted.
Just received this gripping cartoon by Sergio Hernandez. Hopefully the energetic, but peaceful voices will change the perspective of many concerned with the increasing numbers of Hispanic/Latinos in the U.S..
Reference to the historical contributions past as well as present were frequent in the interviews in both the English and Spanish language on the radio and TV stations.
For you interest and support is a copy of the Senate Bill pertaining to the feasibility of a National Museum of the American Latino Community is the first item under U.S.
Hope you enjoy the Cinco de Mayo photo taken by Somos Primos reader Robert Gonzalez serving in the Navy in Japan. Please feel invited to send photos demonstrating that the Hispanic presence is, and was, all over the world in the past, as in the present.
Warm regards, Mimi
